2024-05-15: Blowflation

WTF is up with the price of tissues lately? In my previous entry I put forth the merits of buying own/private label or budget brand products on the whole. Now even that has become a minefield.

In the past couple of years whereas one used to be able to acquire a box of Springforce (Tesco private label, budget/value category) tissues at £0.85 for a box of 225 sheets, the deal is as of the date of this entry £1.10 for 180 sheets. That represents an effective 62% increase in price [per sheet], up from [rounded up to third non-0 digit] 0.378p per sheet to 0.612p per sheet.

It is officially now cheaper to use Lidl Simply kitchen towels, with 240 sheets at the time of this entry (see below addendum) costing £1.35, meaning a price of 0.5625p per sheet: 8% cheaper than a Springforce tissue.

If that doesn't 'blow', I don't know what does. At least kitchen towel is larger and stronger, but one might have to get used to shaving down one's nostrils.

As for any benefits regarding other potential applications for tissue-based products, I will leave that up to your imagination.

ADDENDUM 2024-05-17:
I popped into Lidl yesterday and the kitchen towels had been price cut (who knows for how long) to £1.19 per pack - less than half a penny per sheet at 0.496p!
